The aim of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of traditional Turkish handicrafts, encompassing their historical, cultural, and artistic significance, while equipping students with practical skills to analyze, appreciate, and create selected craft forms. By the end of the course, students will understand the historical development and cultural context of Turkish handicrafts and be able to identify major types, including textiles, ceramics, woodwork, metalwork, and paper arts, along with their regional variations and symbolic meanings. They will gain practical experience in basic techniques such as weaving, embroidery, marbling, and ceramic decoration, applying traditional design principles in small-scale projects. Students will develop the ability to analyze the aesthetic, cultural, and social significance of handicrafts, evaluate their contemporary applications and preservation strategies, and effectively present research or projects while critically reflecting on the role of handicrafts in cultural heritage and modern design contexts.
