This course provides an overview of the evolution of architecture from prehistoric times to the contemporary period. It examines the cultural, social, and technological influences that shaped architectural development across different civilizations. Students will explore the architectural history of early human settlements and monumental structures in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Anatolia, and the Mediterranean, progressing through Classical Antiquity, the Late Antique and Byzantine periods, and beyond. The course will also cover the architectural transformations of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, Neoclassicism, and the rise of modern and contemporary architecture. By analyzing significant events, architectural styles, key figures, and iconic buildings, students will gain insight into how architecture has evolved in response to cultural, political, and technological changes. The course aims to develop a critical understanding of why different societies produced distinct architectural expressions throughout history.
